Chennai, April 10: A day after reports cited that Tamil Nadu Hotels Association (TNHA) has announced that voters will get a flat 10% discount on their bill in prominent restaurants in the state if they vote on April 18, another reports arrives where revenue of star-category hotels in Chennai has taken a beating due to the implementation of Model Code of Conduct.

According to a report, published in Times of India, conferences and workshops - involving elected representatives and bureaucrats - have been scrapped till the elections are not over. This has not only hit the hospitality sector but the conferences and workshops are on hold. Briefing more about the situation, Chennai Hotels Association secretary R Rajkumar said, as the daily quotes, "Only social functions such as receptions, birthday parties and corporate meetings are taking place in star hotels. The events where participation of minister, MLAs and bureaucrats were needed, have been stopped due to the model code of conduct."

The report further states around 180-200 hotels were hit range from three star to five star in Chennai and peripheries. The secretary also adds that due to the cancellations of the event, the revenue has stagnant now.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Hotels Association (TNHA) - an umbrella association with close to 10,000 hotels under it across the state - has announced that people can avail 10% discount on food bill by displaying the voting mark on their index fingers and their voter ID cards.
