Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Punjab CM Amarinder Singh Says Congress Will Drop Leaders From Cabinet Who Fail to Ensure Victory For Party in State
Punjab will vote in a single phase on the last day of polling for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 on May 19.
Chandigarh, April 24: Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh said on Wednesday that candidates who cannot ensure victory for the party from the constituencies they represent will be dropped from the cabinet. The Punjab CM's remark comes at a time when the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections are underway across India. The Bharatiya Janata Party has forged a pre-poll alliance with its long-time ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab. Of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the SAD will field candidates in 10 and the BJP, the remaining three. The BJP-SAD alliance will be challenged by the ruling Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, SAD won four out of the 10 seats it contested, while the BJP won two out of the three.

The BJP led NDA and its ally SAD had failed to replicate the success it achieved in India's Northern states in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections in Punjab where they have been in power for the past seven years. The BJP-SAD alliance also suffered defeat in the hand of Congress in 2017 assembly polls in the state.
On Tuesday, the BJP inducted actor Bollywood actor Sunny Deol into the party. He is likely to contest from Gurdaspur seat in Punjab.
Punjab will vote in a single phase on the last day of polling for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 on May 19. The results of Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be declared on May 23.
