Diplomats and other support staff serving in embassies abroad are also service voters. In 2014, the corresponding figure was 13,27,627. He, however, said nearly 90,000 voter applications are currently being processed and asked first-time voters to apply as soon as possible to get their names enrolled in the electoral list. The number of first-time voters, aged 18-19, in the electoral roll stands at 1,58,314, he told reporters here. Singh also said authorities will keep a strict vigil on social media platforms to check the spread of fake news and hate speech to ensure free and fair polls,

He asserted that "appropriate action" will be taken against violators.
