Considering the volatile situation in the region, the Election Commission had deployed 20,000 central armed forces to guard the 9,770 voting stations earmarked for the third phase polls.
A top EC official, posted on poll duty in Bengal, had remarked last week that the situation in the state is akin to how "it was in BIhar 15 years ago".
Both the BJP and the Left Front had raised allegations of voter fraud during the first two phases of the polls, accusing the ruling TMC of "high-handedness" using the state police force.
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, along with sitting Raiganj MP Mohammed Salim, had also approached the Central Election Commission seeking repolling in several polling booths citing the alleged booth capturing by Trinamool workers.
