Chennai, December 22: Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Hassan on Saturday confirmed that his party will contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha elections in 2019. The actor-turned-politician said that "I would fight elections. A committee would soon start choosing candidates." Earlier, the prominent Tamil actor said that his party has started preparing for the general elections but declined to speak of any alliances. Hassan said that his "Party will do only what is good for people” and would focus on Tamil Nadu's development. When asked about alliance he said, " Such things cannot be said now and it cannot be disclosed to the media but MNM is open to alliances with like-minded parties." Kamal Haasan further said that he would not ally with any party that "tries to change Tamil Nadu's DNA". Earlier, the founder of the MNM has indicated that his movie 'Indian 2', a sequel to his 1996 movie 'Indian', could be his last film. "I will have to wind up to be effective as a politician...you have to dedicate time totally (for politics). But I will have my production company continuing in the field. Somebody else will run it," said Hasaan while speaking to media.
Makkal Needhi Maiam, which means People’s Centre for Justice, was founded by Kamal Hassan on February 2018. MNM was launched in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other senior leaders.
