Lok Sabha Elections 2019: EC to Meet Tomorrow for Discussions on Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls
With political parties raising questions on EC’s decision for the delay in Assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir, apex poll conducting body chief Sunil Arora will conduct a meeting on Tuesday to discuss modalities.
New Delhi, March 11: With the voices from the political parties raising for simultaneous Assembly polls along with the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the apex poll conducting body chief Sunil Arora will conduct a meeting on Tuesday to discuss modalities. Earlier, The ECI chief on Sunday had declared that Lok Sabha Elections in J&K would be conducted in five phases, but stated that people would have to wait for Assembly elections for sometime in the state – currently under Governor rule.
Since former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti parted ways with alliance Bharatiya Janata Party in June 2018 last year, the state Assembly has been suspended, and the Governor rule is in place. Currently, Satya Pal Malik has been taking care of the administration of the state and political parties are demanding the Assembly polls to be conducted soon. Earlier on Sunday, hours after the EC announced the dates for Lok Sabha elections in the state, former CM Omar Abdullah questioned EC’s decision on why simultaneous polls are not being conducted in J&K. Alleging that the EC’s decision is like ‘surrendering to Pakistan, to militants and to the Hurriyat’, Abdullah has questioned on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s promise.
The National Conference vice-president took to Twitter and wrote, “What happened to Rajnath Singh’s assurance to Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as well as to the all party meeting recently in Delhi that all forces would be made available for simultaneous polls?”
Adding further, he wrote, “In light of the failure to conduct Assembly elections on time in J&K I’m retweeting my tweets from a few days ago”. “PM Modi has surrendered to Pakistan, to the militants & to the Hurriyat,” he wrote, adding “Well done Modi Sahib. 56-inch chest failed. #slowclap.” Jammu And Kashmir Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Dates: Constituency-Wise Complete Schedule Of Voting And Results For General Elections.
Mehbooba Mufti and BSP chief Mayawati shared similar opinions. It is to be known that the Lok Sabha Elections in J&K will take place in five phases - April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29 and May 6. While there has been no confirmation on the dates of Assembly elections in the state.
