New Delhi, May 17: Campaigning for the final phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, scheduled on May 19, will end today evening. In nine out of the 59 constituencies set to be contested on Sunday, the electioneering came to a draw last night. These constituencies are located in West Bengal, where the Election Commission took the unprecedented decision in wake of large-scale violence. As campaigning for the final phase ended on Thursday in Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the party's final rally, asking voters to root out the Trinamool regime. His speech ended with repeated invocations of "Jai Shri Ram", with the PM accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of criminalising the raising of this slogan in her state.

A major controversy erupted in Madhya Pradesh, where BJP's Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur ended up praising Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse. She later apologised for her remarks after being reportedly reprimanded by the BJP high command.

In Punjab, where all 13 seats are set to be contested in the last phase, cracks have emerged within the Congress after State Minister Navjot Singh's wife Navjot Kaur accused Chief Minister Amarinder Singh of slashing her candidature bid from Chandigarh. The CM has denied the charge.
