Election Commission on Tuesday appointed Gopal Mukherjee as Special Expenditure Observer for Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, DD Goel for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Shailendra Handa to be Special Expenditure Observer for Gujarat and Maharashtra, Madhu Mahajan for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The party on late Sunday night named candidates for 18 of the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies it is contesting in the state under a seat-sharing agreement with its ruling ally Janatal Dal-Secular (JD-S), which will contest the remaining eight seats. The candidates for Bangalore North and South were not named.
On Monday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had attacked the BJP over the plight of ‘shiksha mitras’ or contractual teachers in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi alleged that the ruling party leaders are busy marketing T-shirts instead of attending to those suffering. Hundreds of ‘shiksha mitras’ have been protesting and pressing for better pay and appointment as assistant teachers in the state.
