Abhinandan Pathak, a PM Modi lookalike, filed his nomination as Independent candidate from Lucknow today. Says, "I'll also file nomination from Varanasi on 26. I am not a dummy candidate. I am not against anyone but 'jumla'. After winning, I'll support Rahul ji's PM candidature.

Congress national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani over her educational qualifications. Chaturvedi said, "A new serial is going to come, 'Kyunki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi'; Its opening line will be 'Qualifications ke bhi roop badalte hain, naye-naye sanche mein dhalte hain, ek degree aati hai, ek degree jaati hai, bante affidavit naye hain."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold election Rallies in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala on Friday.


The first phase of Lok Sabha polling concluded yesterday. The voting was held in 91 constituencies across 20 states. Meanwhile, polling for assembly seats in four states - Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha also held simultaneously along with the parliamentary voting.  Incidents of violence were reported from Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal. In the southern state, one TDP and one YSR Congress workers were killed in the scuffle during the polling.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination papers for Raebareilly Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. This year, the UPA chairperson is trying her luck to retain the Raebareli seat for the fifth time. Ahead of filing her nominations, Sonia Gandhi along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took part in a ‘hawan’ (pooja) at the Congress’ central office.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani on Thursday also filed her nomination papers from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi Lok Sabha constituency which goes to the polls in the fifth phase on May 6. Before filing her nomination papers, Smriti Irani performed a puja. Her husband Zubin Irani was also present at the puja.
