Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Campaigning for First Phase of Polls Ends Today, Polling to Be Held on April 11
A total of 91 constituencies spread across 20 Indian States and Union Territories will go to polls in the first phase on Thursday, April 11.
New Delhi, April 9: After big rallies by top national leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, the campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will end on Tuesday, April 9 at 5 PM. A total of 91 constituencies spread across 20 Indian States and Union Territories will go to polls in the first phase on Thursday, April 11. The states that will go to poll include Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, Telangana and Uttarakhand. Along with the end of campaigning for the first phase, Tuesday is the last day to file nominations for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections in which 71 constituencies spread over 9 states will go to polls in this phase on April 29. The scrutiny will take place on April 10, while April 12 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
Setting in motion the high-voltage electoral battle, the notification for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections was issued on March 18. The BJP seeks to return to power amid opposition's efforts to present a united fight to unseat it. Voting for the Lok Sabha polls will be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19 while the counting of votes will be held on May 23. With the announcement of election dates on March 10, the Model of Conduct has come into place with immediate effect.
