While the 17th Lok Sabha polls were held with large scale arrangements, the elections were also marred with controversies. The polls witnessed issues of bogus voting, EVM tempering, non-functioning EVM machines and even attacks on polling booths. There were also complaints of alleged movements of EVM, however, ECI stated them as "absolutely false, and factually incorrect". After CCTV footage claiming to be that of bogus voting surfaced online, certain constituencies witnessed re-polling. The Election Commission had declared March 26, 2019, as the last date of filing on the nomination and March 29, 2019, as the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

According to predictions by exit polls, the BJP-led NDA may return to power again and the Congress-led UPA may not manage to make the majority. It also stated that "others" will receive 94 to 138 seats. As per 12 of 14 exit polls which came out on Sunday, NDA will manage majority with 282 to 365 seats. Any state or alliance require 271 seats to form the government in Lok Sabha elections.
