List of BJP Candidates For Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 Announced: First List With 72 Names Including Key Candidates Out
Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect its representatives for the 225-member assembly. The results of these elections will be out on May 15.
New Delhi, April 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) on Sunday announced the first list of 72 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Elections 2018. As per reports, the names of the candidates were finalized after a meeting of the party’s central election committee was held in the evening at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
Karnataka will go to polls on May 12 to elect its representatives for the 225-member assembly. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 15. The tenure for the House is expiring on May 28, 2018.
The high-level meeting was chaired by BJP President Amit Shah while the attendees included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, former Karnataka chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, among others.

The prominent nominees are the party’s chief ministerial face B.S. Yeddyurappa from Shikaripura, K.S. Eshwarappa from Shivamogga, Jagadish Shettar from Hubli-Dharwad Central, Basavaraj Bommai from Shiggaon, C.M. Udasi from Hangal, K.V. Hegde from Sirsi and B. Sriramulu from Molakalmuru (reserved).
It must be noted that BJP chief ministerial candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa will fight from his Shikarpur constituency. Parliamentarian B. Sriramulu, an ST leader has moved out of Ballari district and will contest from Molkalmuru seat in Chitradurga district.
As per reports, two women candidates – Shashikala Jolle and Roopali Naik have also made it to the first list of the BJP. Jolle will contest from Athani constituency in Belgaum district whereas Naik will fight from the Karwar constituency in Uttara Kannada district.
This year, the total number of polling stations in the state have increased to 56696 as compared to 52034 in the 2013 Assembly Elections. Karnataka has been predominantly ruled by the Indian National Congress(INC). The BJP is leaving no stone unturned to come to power in Karnataka after a gap of five years. With just about a month to go for the elections, the battle between BJP and Congress has already begun.
