Srinagar, August 3: The political uncertainty and panic in the state of Jammu and Kashmir intensified on Saturday with the Government issuing an advisory to the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra to abandon their trip with immediate effect, fearing attack from terrorists. The Government move triggered angry response from political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir and is one of the developments amid the chaos surrounding Article 370 and Article 35A. National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday at Governor's residence. After the meeting, Abdullah said that, "We wanted to know about the current situation in J&K. When we ask officials, they say something is happening, but nobody knows what is actually happening." Article 35A and 370 Must Not Be Removed From Kashmir, Says NC MP Farooq Abdullah.

Abdullah further said, "Governor isn't the final word on J&K. The final word on J&K is the Govt of India.Therefore, more than what Governor tells us publicly, I definitely would like to hear from Govt of India publicly that there is nothing people have to worry about."

However, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik  informed the delegation of leaders including  Mehbooba Mufti, Shah Faesal, Sajjad Lone and Imran Ansari on Saturday that the Yatra was called off after credible evidence was received that terrorists were on the lookout to carry out an attack.

The J&K Governor also said that a pure security measure is being mixed up with issues with which it has no connection and requested the political leaders to ask their supporters not to mix up matters, to maintain calm and not believe exaggerated rumours being circulated all around.

"It is the responsibility of the state to provide security to all its citizens. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, Yatris and tourists have been asked to return," clarified the Governor.

In other development, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in their statement that, "All airlines to be ready for additional flights to and from Srinagar at short notice to fly out tourists and Amarnath yatris."

Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti also commented on the situation in Kashmir and said, "The PM talks of winning the hearts of people of J&K. Then, why are such rumours doing the rounds. The Amarnath yatris and tourists are being sent back. But, you are not thinking where the Kashmiris, people of Jammu and Ladakh will go?"

"Due to recent developments here, there is an atmosphere of fear. I have never seen such panic. One one side, Governor Sahib says that the situation is normal. On the other side, deployment of additional forces is being done," the PDP leader added.

Punjab CM, Captain Amarinder Singh has directed the Pathankot district administration to make all arrangements to ensure the safe return of Amarnath Yatris from Jammu & Kashmir in the wake of the J&K government’s advisory to curtail their stay in the Kashmir Valley.
