Srinagar, August 4: With rumours of escalating tensions rising in Jammu and Kashmir after Centre's decision to curtail Amarnath Yatra and deploy additional 35,000 security forces in the Valley, Opposition party leader - led by Farooq Abdullah - met in Srinagar on Sunday. Abdullah conveyed that all the parties will unite to identity, autonomy and the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Abdullah said, as quoted by ANI, "It was unanimously decided that all the parties will be united in their resolve to protect & defend identity, autonomy and the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, against all attacks, whatsoever." He even opined that both the neighbour countries - India and Pakistan - should not take any step that may accelerate the tension between them. He said, "I appeal to both the countries, India & Pakistan not to take any step that may accelerate the tension between the two countries." On Amarnath Yatra curtailment, the National Conference president said, "Representatives had a meet at my residence on the prevailing political condition and deployment of security forces. It has never happened in the past that Amarnath Yatra was stopped."

Earlier on Saturday, Congress lashed out at Narendra Modi government and demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement in Parliament on the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Though later, Governor Satya Pal Malik stated later that tourists are his administration's responsibility and appealed the people no to panic to rumours. Malik even mentioned that there is no such of information regarding Article 35A or 370 tinkering and asked people to get it confirmed with him on this.
