Exit polls predicted a fractured mandate in Mizoram with the MNF in lead. The BJP who has not even won a single seat in last five assembly elections. as per exit polls, the ZPM is also likely to win 8-12 seats.

Counting is underway in Mizoram.

Aizwal, December 11: The counting of votes for the 40-seat legislative assembly of Mizoram has begun today. The Election Commission (EC) will declare results on the same day by evening. The assembly elections in the state were held on November 28 on 1,164 polling booths across the state. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was implemented in Mizoram as the EC declared the polling date. The main contest will be between the ruling Congress and the Mizo National Front (MNF). The grand old party is in power in Mizoram since 2008, and incumbent Chief Minister Lal Thanhawala will be eyeing the third consecutive term as the CM. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will also try to make inroads in the north-eastern state. The saffron party till now have not won a single seat in Mizoram since last five assembly elections.

1) Lawngtlai West (ST): The constituency of Lawngtlai West is a part of Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. The Congress candidate C. Ngunlianchunga won the seat in the 2013 assembly elections beating C Ramhluna of the MNF. In 2018 election, C. Ngunlianchunga again contested on the Congress ticket against MNF’s Ramhluna and BJP’s J B Rualchhinga. Check here for live results for Lawngtlai West .

2) Lawngtlai East (ST): The constituency of Lawngtlai East is a part of Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district. H. Zothangliana of the Congress won the seat in the 2013 assembly elections. The Congress again fielded Zothangliana in 2018 assembly elections against H Biakzaua of the MNF and Vanupa Zathang of the BJP. Check here for live results for Lawngtlai East.

3) Saiha (ST): MNF’s Dr K. Beichhua is the sitting MLA from the constituency. Meanwhile, S. Hiato of the Congress won the 2008 assembly elections from Saiha. The constituency is a part of Mizoram’s Saiha district. Beichhua again contested 2018 assembly election on the MNF ticket, while, the Congress fielded Hiato from Saiha. 4) Palak (ST): The constituency of Palak is a part of Mizoram’s Saiha district and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. Hiphei won the seat in the 2013 assembly elections on the Congress ticket beating PP Thawla of the MNF. In 2018 elections, Hiphei contested on the BJP ticket, while, the Congress fielded KT Rokhaw from Palak. Various exit polls predicted a fractured mandate in the state. The MNF is expected to gain the lead in the elections. In 2013, the ruling Congress won 34 seats with 44.6 percent vote share, while the MNF managed to bag only five seats with 28.7 percent vote share, whereas the Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) remained victorious only on one seat.
