A total of 6 candidates were in the fray for this constituency. Lakshadweep has an electorate of 54266, out of which 27,475 are male electors and 26,791 are female electors. Over 49 polling stations were set up to facilitate the voting process in the UT. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) nominated Shri Abdul Khader as their candidate and the Indian National Congress had chosen M. Hamdullah Sayeed. The current MP, Mohammed Faizal P. In the 16th Lok Sabha Election, 2014, Mohammed Faizal P.P. from National Congress Party emerged victorious with 50.11 percent votes. This was the 17th Lok Sabha elections. Before 1967, the Member of Parliament for this constituency were directly appointed by the President of India.
