Counting of Votes Begins For MLA Seats of Kunkuri, Pathalgaon, Lailunga, Raigarh, Sarangarh, Kharsia in Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2018 begins. 


Raipur, December 11: It is the big results day in Chhattisgarh and the fate of 1200 candidates contesting the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election results 2018 will be decided Tuesday when the counting of votes will be carried out. We at LatestLY will bring to you live news updates of Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections related to six constituencies Kunkuri, Pathalgaon, Lailunga, Raigarh, Sarangarh, and Kharsia. One expects a neck to neck battle between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress (INC) despite the incumbent BJP Chief Minister Raman Singh holding the leadership position of the state for 15 years. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) and Chhattisgarhi Samaj Party (CSP) have also fielded their candidates. The counting will begin at 8 am. Kunkuri Assembly Seat

Kunkuri (ST) is a small tehsil in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh and is home to Asia’s second largest Catholic church, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. The seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates. In 2013, BJP won the seat with their candidate Rohit Kumar Sahu defeating Congress’ Abraham Tirkey by a margin of 28000 votes. In the current election, BJP have posed their faith in Bharat Sai while Congress have given a ticket to Uttamdan Minj and BSP to Benjamin Minj.

Pathalgaon Assembly Seat

Pathalgaon Assembly seat is part of Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district and is a Scheduled Tribe candidate reserved constituency. BJP leader Shivshankar Painkra won the last election by a small margin of 3900 votes defeating Congressman Rampukar Singh. The candidates in the 2018 elections are same as 2013 for BJP and Congress while new entrants Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) have handed ticket to Maheshwar Paikra from the seat.

Lailunga Assembly Seat

The Lailunga constituency comes under the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh and is a reserved seat for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribe. The current MLA from Lailunga (ST) is BJP’s Suniti Satyanand Rathia who was victorious over Congress’ Hridaya Ram Rathiya by a margin of 14000 votes in the 2013 elections. She is in the fray once again in the 2018 election and has Chakradhar Prasad Sidar of Congress and JCC’s Hridayaram Rathiya to fend off.

Raigarh Assembly Seat

Raigarh also known as Sanskardhani is the cultural capital of Chhattisgarh and one of the high-profile constituencies in the state. BJP’s Roshan Lal Agrawal was victorious in the 2013 elections beating Shakrajit Naik of Congress by a margin of 20000 votes. The MLA has been given ticket by BJP once again in 2018 while Congress have fielded Prakash Nayak and Vibhas Kumar Singh Thakur is JCC’s pick for the seat.

Sarangarh Assembly Seat

The Sarangarh Assembly seat is reserved a seat for Scheduled Tribe and is part of Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. In the 2013 Assembly elections, BJP’s Kera Bai Manahar defeated Padma Ghanshyam Manhar by a margin of 15000 votes. He will have to fight Congress leader Uttari Jangade and BSP’s Arvind Kumar Khatkar in the 2018 election to continue as the MLA of Sarangarh.

Kharsia Assembly Seat

Kharsia also known as ‘Mini Haryana’ due to the huge population of Marwari’s in the region is part of Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district. The current MLA of Kharsia is Congressman Umesh Patel who triumphed over BJP’s Dr Jawaharlal Naik by 38000 votes in the 2013 election. Interestingly, the Congress has been victorious from this seat in the past three elections. BJP have given a ticket to OP Chaudhary, and he will be up against the incumbent lawmaker from Kharsia and BSP’s Narayan Sidar in the current election.
