Kozhikode Lok Sabha Constituency in Kerala Results 2019: Congress Candidate MK Raghavan Elected MP
Kozhikode district, also known as Calicut is one of the 20 constituencies in Kerala.
The results of the Kozhikode Lok Sabha Constituency has been declared. Congress' candidate and sitting MP MK Raghavan won the seat with 4,93,444 votes. He won over a margin of 85,225 votes. Other candidates in fray in Kozhikode included Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) K P Prakash Babu, Communist Party Of India (Marxist) candidate A Pradeep Kumar and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Raghu K. Voting took place for the Kozhikode Constituency on April 23. According to the Election Commission, a total voter turnout of 81.47 per cent was recorded in the constituency. Kozhikode is a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the 20 constituencies in the state, also known as Calicut. Kozhikode district has been a place of trade and commerce since the time of Britishers. Kozhikode's constituency number is 5. Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency comprises of seven assembly segments including Balusseri (SC), Elathur, Kozhikode, North Kozhikode, South Beypore, Kunnamangalam and Koduvally.
While Kozhikode district is mostly a Congress stronghold, it has elected both CPI(M) and Janata Dal to power. CPI(M) had fielded Kozhikode North legislator A Pradeep Kumar against two-time Congress MP MK Raghavan in Kozhikode district. Both have helmed various development projects under their regime in their respective constituencies. The sitting MP MK Raghavan had won with 42% votes in both 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections. BJP candidate C K Padmanabhan had secured 1,15,760 votes in 2014, affecting the vote share of CPI(M) candidate A Vijayaraghavan. BJP candidate in Kozhikode V Muraleedharan received 89,718 votes in the 2009 polls when MK Raghavan won by securing 3,42,309.

The Lok Sabha elections 2019 was held between April 11 and May 19 in seven phases. In Kerala, voting was held in a single phase. During the third phase, the polling was held in 115 Lok Sabha constituencies of 14 states. The counting of votes was held on May 23 and thereafter the results were declared.
