The results of the Koraput Lok Sabha election will be declared today. The counting of votes began on the parliamentary seat in Odisha at 8 am on Thursday, May 23. Voting for the Koraput seat took place in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Koraput is a Key Lok Sabha Constituency of Odisha. The constituency currently comprises of seven assembly seats - Gunupur, Bissam-Cuttack, Rayagada, Lakshmipur, Pottangi, Koraput, Jeypore. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fielded Kaushalya Hikaka from Koraput, while, Jayaram Pangi contested on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.  The Congress gave the ticket to Saptagiri Ulka from this constituency.  The last date of filing nomination for the seat was March 25. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on March 26. In 2014, BJD's Jhina Hikaka defeated nine-time MP Giridhar Gamang of the Congress with a margin of over 20,000 votes. While, BJP's Shibashankar Ulka came third.  In 2009, BJD had bagged this seat. Its candidate Jayaram Pangi had won the seat. Till 2004, the Congress had not been defeated from this seat.
