The constituency of Kolhapur South is one of the 288 Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) constituencies of Maharashtra. Kolhapur South – constituency no 274 – forms an integral part of the Lok Sabha constituency, Kolhapur. The Election Commission of India (ECI), while announcing the date of Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019, had said that it will be a single-phased election, and hence the voting in Kolhapur South is slated to take place on October 21.

On September 21, the Election Commission had announced the election dates for both Haryana and Maharashtra.
