Kolhapur North constituency is one of the 288 constituencies that form the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha). Kolhapur – constituency number 276 – forms an integral part of the Kolhapur (Lok Sabha) Parliamentary Assembly. As the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the voting in Maharashtra will take place in a single-phase only, the electorate in Kolhapur will go to vote on October 21.

Rajesh Vinayakrao Khirsagar, who hails from Shiv Sena, is the current MLA from Kolhapur North Vidhan Sabha seat. In 2014 Maharashtra Elections, he defeated Congress’ candidate and secured 69,736 votes in his favour. In 2009 Maharashtra Elections too, it was Rajesh Vinayakrao Khirsagar who had won the Legislative Assembly seat from Kolhapur North constituency. Khirsagar will be fighting the 2019 polls as well on a Shiv Sena ticket, against Chandrakant Pandit Jadhav of the Congress among other candidates.

On September 21, the Election Commission announced the dates for Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly Polls 2019. The EC announced that the elections in Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2019 will take place in a single-phased manner, on October 21. The votes will be counted on October 24, and the results of 2019 Maharashtra Assembly Polls will be announced on the same day. The EC has said that all the electoral procedures will be completed before October 28, i.e. Diwali.

The EC has said that at least one of the polling stations in every Legislative Assembly should be women-exclusive only. It has instructed the poll authorities to ensure that all facilities are provided to the specially-abled people and senior citizens so that they face no hassles in voting.
