Ranchi, December 23: Congress Candidate Naman Bixal Kongari has won Kolebira assembly bypoll by 9,658 votes after 20 rounds of counting. Kongari received 4,03,432 votes, while the nearest rival Basant Soreng of the Bharatiya Janata Party got 3,06,853 votes. Jharkhand Party candidate received 1,64,455 votes. There were total five candidates were in the fray. The counting of votes took place at Simdega College.
The by-elections were conducted in Kolebira along with Gujarat’s Jasdan assembly seat on December 20. The election was necessitated after Kolebira MLA Anos Akka was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Manoj Kumar, a teacher by profession. The Election Commission on November 22 announced the schedule for by-polls to fill the two vacant assembly seats. The date of issue of notification for the two by-polls was November 26, and the last date of nominations was December 3. Scrutiny of the nominations was done on December 4, and the last date of withdrawal of candidates' name was December 6.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, BJP candidate Kunvarji Bavalia won Jasdan assembly bypoll with about 20,000 votes. Bavalia received over 90,000 votes. The main competition was between Congress and the BJP. This time, five times winner Bavalia is contested on the BJP ticket, while, the Congress gave the ticket to Avsar Nakiya. Bavalia is also a one-term MP from Rajkot. He is currently serving as a Cabinet minister in the Vijay Rupani-led Gujarat government.
