Mumbai, October 10: The Kinwat Vidhan Sabha seat in Maharashtra has been a stronghold of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). For the October 21 Maharashtra assembly elections, the NCP reposed faith in its three-time MLA Jadhav Pradeep Naik who will face a tough challenge from Bhimrao Ramjee Keram of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP stitched a pre-poll alliance with the Shiv Sena and left 124 seats for the Uddhav Thackeray-led party. Of the 164 seats that BJP has in its quota, some have gone to smaller allies. In the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 122 seats. The Shiv Sena, which snapped ties with the BJP before polls, came second with 63 seats. The Congress and NCP bagged 42 and 41 seats respectively. Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha and Samajwadi Party won one seat each. Seven seats went to Independents. Polling for the Maharashtra assembly elections will be held on October 21 across the state. Nearly 9 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise. The counting of votes will take place on October 21 and the results will be declared on the same day. The term of Maharashtra assembly ends on November 9.
