Raipur, December 11: Counting of Chhattisgarh – went to polls in two phases in the recently contested Assembly elections 2018 – is underway. The poll battle in these six constituencies – Khairagarh, Dongargarh (SC), Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, Khujji, Mohla-Manpur (ST) – is primarily wedged between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and the BSP-Janta Congress alliance. Khairagarh: For this seat, Both Congress and BJP have repeated their candidates. Congress has given the ticket to sitting MLA Girwar Janghel, while BJP has repeated its candidate Komal Janghel. Dongargarh (SC): For this reserved seat, BJP has fielded sitting candidate Sarojini Banjare, while Congress has given the seat to Bhuneshwar Singh Baghel, instead of Dr Thaneshwar Patila. Rajnandgaon: Here, BJP has fielded sitting lawmaker and current Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, who had defeated Congress candidate Alka Uday Mudliyar by a margin of 36,000 votes in 2013. Congress has fielded former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece, Karuna Shukla. Dongargaon: In this constituency, a trilateral contest is expected between the ruling BJP, the Congress and the Janta Congress-BSP alliance. Congress has repeated its sitting MLA Daleshwar Sahu, who defeated BJP’s Dinesh Gandhi in 2013. This time BJP has given the ticket to Madhusudan Yadav. Khujji: From this constituency, Congress has fielded Chhanni Chandu Sahu by replacing sitting MLA Bhola Ram Sahu, while BJP has fielded Hirendra Kumar Sahu, instead of Rajindar Bhatiya. Mohla-Manpur (ST): For this reserved seat, Congress has fielded Indrashah Mandavi by replacing sitting MLA Tej Kunwar Gowardhan Netam. On the other side, BJP has replaced Bhojesh Shah Mandavi with Kanchan Mala Bhuarya. Janta Congress has given the ticket to Sanjeet Kumar Thakur, while AAP is testing its field with Arjun Mandavi. The counting of votes is expected to conclude in the next few hours, with the Election Commission of India scheduled to declare the final results by the end of the day. In case of a BJP victory, Dr Raman Singh would continue to remain the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. If the Congress succeeds in routing the saffron camp, the party is expected to take a cautious decision on choosing the CM, while BSP-Janta Congress Alliance might choose Ajit Jogi as their CM candidate.
