CPI(M)-led LDF candidate Saji Cheriyan won Chengannur Assembly bypoll with a record margin of over 18,000 votes. He defeated Bharatiya Janata Party’s P Sreedharan Pillai and Congress leader D Vijayakumar.
The by-elections were necessitated by the death of sitting MLA KK Ramachandran Nair of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

CPI(M) candidate Saji Cherian won Kerala's Chengannur Assembly seat with a large majority.
CPI(M) is leading with 67,303 votes, followed by Congress at 46,347 and BJP trailing at 35,270.
CPI(M) candidate Saji Cherian is leading with 14229 votes from Chengannur assembly seat, according to recent trends.

As Pinarayi Vijayan government is set to complete two years in office, CPI(M) will have major reasons to celebrate if they win the Chengannur seat.
CPI(M) candidate Saji Cherian is leading by 4163 votes in the state. UDF candidate D Vijayakumar is following with 3716 votes while BJP's P Sreedharan Pillai is trailing with 2865 votes.
Saji Cherian was unanimously re-elected Alappuzha district secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) earler this year.
CPM candidate Saji Cheriyan is leading from the Chengannur Assembly seat. Kerala is among the few states in the country where the BJP could not form government. At present the party has only one seat in Kerala.
As per early trends, Congress is leading in this crucial assembly seat in Kerala. Congress, CPI(M) and BJP have fielded their candidates. All parties aggressively campaigned for the seat.

Mumbai, May 31: The by-poll elections results will be announced today for poling held in ten assembly seats ---Maharashtra (Palus Kadegaon constituency), Uttar Pradesh (Noorpur), Bihar (Jokihat), Jharkhand (Gomia and Silli), Kerala (Chengannur), Meghalaya (Ampati), Punjab (Shahkot), Uttarakhand (Tharali) and West Bengal (Maheshtala) and two Lok Sabha seats of Maharashtra's Bhandara-Gondiya, Palghar and Nagaland on May 28. The by-poll elections were scheduled in Kerala state Chengannur assembly seat after the sad demise of sitting MLA KK Ramachandran Nair of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) on 14 January 2018. He was undergoing treatment for liver disease. The seat has been lying vacant since then.
The assembly seat is observing a triangular contest between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Congress which helms the United Democratic Front and the Bhartiya Janata Party.
The assembly seat is said to be crucial for BJP who is trying to make its foot stronger in the state to strengthen its party in Kerala. The three political parties have fielded strong candidates against each other, to win the by-poll election. Congress party has frayed D Vijayakumar; BJP has fielded PS Sreedharan Pillai, while Saji Cherian of CPI (M) wants to retain the seat for its party.
