Thiruvananthapuram, January 3: Kerala assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, speaking on the comments made by Kerala governor on the issue of criticism of Assembly's resolution against CAA, defended the Kerala assembly and said that they didn't cross any limit or constitutional obligations. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had criticised the state assembly's decision to pass a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He had said that the resolution had no "no legal or constitutional validity". "This resolution has no legal or constitutional validity because citizenship is exclusively a central subject. "It is unfortunate, we didn't cross our limit or constitutional obligations. We have the right to uphold values of Constitution, CAA is a violation of Article 14 & 15," said P Sreeramakrishnan on state governor's criticism of assembly's resolution against CAA.

The state assembly had on Tuesday passed a resolution seeking the withdrawal of the amended law. The law grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014. The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was passed in the Lok Sabha on December 9 and in the Rajya Sabha on December 11, 2019. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, gave his assent to the bill and it subsequently became the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
