Srinagar, August 26: A day after Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik denied reports of essential drugs shortage, the state administration issued a statement to validate his claim. According to the administration, medicines worth nearly Rs 32 crore were supplied to the Kashmir Valley between July 20 to August 23.
The medicines include drugs from all categories including antibiotics, anti-diabetic, proton pump inhibitors, anti-hypertensives, antacids, NSAIDs and anticancer drugs, the statement further added. Kashmir Valley Runs Out of Lifesaving Medicines Amid Lockdown: Report
Governor Malik had, on Sunday, refuted claims of medicine shortage, alleging that attempts are being made to fuel panic among locals. "The administration will ensure that medicine supply remains adequate. There is no shortage," he said.

The Kashmir Valley has 7,630 retail chemist shops and 4,331 wholesale shops, the administration has claimed, adding that around 65 per cent shops remained open there. In Srinagar, 1,165 out of 1,666 chemist shops in Srinagar remained open on Sunday.
According to the Governor, the administration will leave no stone unturned to provide all essential commodities to the people of J&K. "In fact, we delivered meat, vegetables and eggs to people's doorsteps on Eid," he said.
