Kashmir Now 'Concentration Camp', Says Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Amid Article 370 Abrogation Row

Condemning the manner in which Article 370 was revoked, Chowdhury said it is contrary to what the Prime Minister had said from the ramparts of Red Fort a couple of years ago. The Berhampore MP further added that the government should had consulted all stakeholders, and taken the people of J&K into confidence before repealing Article 370.

New Delhi, August 8: A couple of days after stoking row in the Lok Sabha by questioning whether Jammu & Kashmir is an internal matter or a "bilateral issue", Congress' Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury issued another contentious remark, by accusing the Narendra Modi government of turning J&K into a concentration camp.

Condemning the manner in which Article 370 was revoked, Chowdhury said it is contrary to what the Prime Minister had said from the ramparts of Red Fort a couple of years ago. Article 370: Congress Split Out in Open Over Jammu and Kashmir’s Special Status Revocation

The Berhampore MP further added that the government should had consulted all stakeholders, and taken the people of J&K into confidence before repealing Article 370.

"PM had announced from Red Fort that we'll take Kashmiris forward not with bullets but by embracing them, but today situation in Kashmir is similar to that of a concentration camp. No mobile and internet connection, no Amarnath pilgrimage, what's happening there," the lawmaker from West Bengal asked.

Chowdhury also attempted to clarify over the controversy he had stoked in the Lok Sabha, saying that he and the Congress party considers Kashmir to be an internal issue.

"Kashmir issue is our internal matter. Our country has the right to decide which law to pass in the nation," Chowdhury said, further adding that he had anticipated Pakistan taking an adverse measure, akin to downgrading bilateral ties, in response to the revocation of special status in J&K.
