Kashmir Inching Towards Normalcy, Administration Says 'Prepared For Haj Pilgrims Return From Tomorrow'

Srinagar Divisional Commissioner, Baseer Khan said that, 'We are prepared for the return of Haj pilgrims tomorrow. We have a sufficient fleet of buses to facilitate them to get to their destinations.' He also added that the situation in Kashmir is gradually inching towards normalcy.

Srinagar, August 17: Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Bashir Khan, DC Srinagar, said that the government is committed to ensure the safe and smooth arrival of all the Hajis on Sunday. Basheer Khan also said that schools will reopen on Monday, as mentioned earlier. Divisional Commissioner Baseer Khan expressed confidence and said that the schools will reopen and function normally.

Authorities on Saturday restored 2G mobile internet services in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir, which has been under clampdown since August 5, when the Centre abruptly revoked its special status under Article 370. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam on Friday addressed the media and said that schools and offices in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will reopen from Monday onward in a 'phased' manner.

Speaking at the press conference, the Chief Secretary also added that Jammu and Kashmir witnessed no loss of lives despite Pakistan's effort to manufacture violence in the valley after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of J&K into two separate Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
