Chennai, July 30: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi's health saw improvement on Monday morning after deteriorating on Sunday night. On Monday morning, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Deputy CM E Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam met the DMK chief at Kauvery hospital and said his condition was improving. "I have just met him in Kauvery hospital, he is better and is recovering well," Palaniswami said.

"There was unexpected setback in his (Karunanidhi) health but after intense medical care, he's normalising," DMK Working President MK Stalin said on Monday and asked party workers to stay calm. However, DMK workers continued to gather outside the Kauvery hospital in Chennai, where Karunanidhi was undergoing treatment. Stalin further said that his father's health is being continuously monitored by a team of doctors.

But despite being lathicharged by the police, DMK cadre remained outside the Kauvery Hospital and urged the hospital staff to update them about the leader's health condition. "For the past three days, we have been waiting here without food and water. We don't want anything, give us our thalaiva back. Why has nothing been said on him yet? We want him back," a supporter of Karunanidhi told ANI.

Executive Director of Kauvery Hospital, Dr Aravindaran Selvaraj said, "There was a transient setback in the clinical condition of Kalaignar M Karunanidhi, DMK President and Former CM of Tamil Nadu. With active medical support, his vital signs are normalising. He continues to be closely monitored and treated by panel of expert doctors."

94-year-old Karunanidhi was admitted to hospital on Saturday following a drop in his blood pressure. The DMK chief was suffering from fever due to urinary tract infection. He was earlier undergoing treatment at his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai. He is on intravenous antibiotics.
