Karunanidhi Health Update: Ailing DMK President Hospitalised In Chennai

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi was hospitalised on Wednesday for a surgery.

Chennai, July 18: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi was hospitalised on Wednesday for a surgery. According to reports, Karunanidhi, who has been ailing for a long time, was taken to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai for a minor surgery. A statement from the Kauvery Hospital said, "DMK President M Karundanidhi has been admitted at Kauvery hospital today for a change of tracheostomy tube. He will be discharged later today after recovering from this procedure"

Karunanidhi turned 95 last month and was greeted by several leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister had tweeted, "Best wishes to Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi Ji on his birthday. A prolific writer, poet, thinker and orator, Karunanidhi Ji is one of India’s senior-most political leaders. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life."

Prime Minister Modi had also met the ailing DMK President in Chennai earlier last year during his visit to Tamil Nadu. Following the meeting, Modi had said that he went to meet Karunanidhi to inquire about his health and that no politics was discussed.
