DMK Patriarch 'Kalaignar' Karunanidhi's body, draped in a tricolour, has been kept on an open truck, which will travel from Rajaji Hall to Marina Beach.

Supreme Court has refused to entertain the plea filed by Traffic Ramaswamy seeking stay on the last rites of Karunanidhi at Marina Beach. Ramaswamy had moved SC against the Madras High Court order which allowed to perform the last rites of Karunanidhi at the Marina beach.
Chennai, August 8: The last rites of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi will take place today in Chennai. The 94-year-old leader, popularly known as Kalaignar, died on Tuesday at 6:10 pm at the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai after a prolonged illness. His mortal remains have been kept at Rajaji Hall for supporters and colleagues to pay their respects to the five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Karunanidhi's body was kept at his Gopalapuram residence till 1:00 am where his family members and relatives paid last respect to him. His mortal remains were then taken to his CIT Colony residence. At 4:00 am today, his body was taken to Rajaji Hall where party cadre, the general public and political leaders can pay their respects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and several other politicians will attend the last rites of Karunanidhi.
Meanwhile, the Central government said that a state funeral would be accorded to the late DMK leader M Karunanidhi on Wednesday. The government said that the National flag will fly at half-mast today in Delhi and all state capitals as a mark of respect to Kalaignar.
Following the death of Karunanidhi, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation(KSRTC) suspended its services to Tamil Nadu. It must be noted that KSRTC operates 150-160 schedules during the night to neighbouring state Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu will observe a week-long state mourning for the former chief minister. The Karnataka government has also declared a one-day state mourning for the DMK patriarch.
