Bengaluru, July 18: The HD Kumaraswamy-led government in Karnataka will will face its trust vote in the state Assembly on Thursday at 11 AM. The Janata Dal Secular-Congress coalition government in the state is just 13-month-old. In the floor test today, Kumaraswamy will have to prove his majority on the floor of the House. During the floor test in the Vidhana Soudha today, the chief minister has to move a vote of confidence and win a majority in the house to save his government. If the confidence motion fails to pass, the chief minister has to resign. On Wednesday, Kumaraswamy issued whip to all 37 MLAs of JD(S) including three rebel legislators Narayana Gowda, Gopalaiah and H Vishwanath to be present in the Assembly at the time of trust vote. The Chief Minister has issued warning that if MLAs do not attend the House and vote against the party whip even after attending the session on the day of trust voting, action will be initiated under the rule of Anti-Defection Law. Also, the MLA will be disqualified from his post.

Amid the high-voltage drama, senior Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy, who was amongst the dissident legislators, on Wednesday confirmed that he will remain in the party and vote in favour of Karnataka coalition government in the state Assembly.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court had ruled that 15 Congress MLAs, who have tendered their resignations, cannot be compelled to participate in the proceedings of the House. In its order, the top court also said the Speaker is free to decide on the resignation of the MLAs as per the Constitution. According to the order, MLAs are free to skip the trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly slated for tomorrow.
