Karnataka Trust Vote Deferred: Governor Vajubhai Vala Asks CM HD Kumaraswamy to Prove Majority by 1:30 PM Today

After Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh adjourned the House without the trust vote, Governor Vajubhai Vala on Thursday directed Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to prove his majority on Friday by 1:30 pm.

Bengaluru, July 19: After Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh adjourned the House without the trust vote, Governor Vajubhai Vala on Thursday directed Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to prove his majority on Friday by 1:30 pm. "I require you to prove your majority on the floor of the House on or before 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday)," said Vala in a letter to the Chief Minister.

The Governor also brought to the chief minister's attention that he had already directed the Speaker to hold the floor test by the end of the day (Thursday) under the Article 175(2) of the Constitution. "But I am informed that the House is adjourned today (Thursday). On Thursday, Governor had asked Ramesh to consider the trust vote and complete the process before the end of Thursday. However, the Speaker adjourned the trust vote in the evening. Following the adjournment, the BJP leaders threatened a night dharna alleging that the Speaker by postponing the trust vote despite Governor’s letter had not followed the protocol. BJP state unit chief BS Yeddyurappa, talking to reporters, said that “We are demanding voting on the motion but the Chief Minister is reluctant to take it up as he has confirmed himself that he has lost the confidence of the house and the people. While Congress leader D Shivakumar, speaking on the Supreme Court order and floor test, said that “today on floor of the house, MLA Madhu Swamy (BJP) said the same Supreme Court which helped you to sit there is helping us, it means whatever judgement came out of SC, he has categorically misused it. We respect SC, they're not helping anyone(sic).”
