Karnataka Political Crisis: Mumbai Police Stops DK Shivakumar From Entering Mumbai Hotel After Rebel MLAs Allege Threat

Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar and a Janata Dal (Secular) leader landed in the city this morning a day after the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition, on the verge of losing its majority after 14 exits, won a breather.

Mumbai, July 10: The Mumbai Police on Wednesday escorted Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar away from the gates of Renaissance - Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel where 10 rebel Congress-JD(S) MLAs are staying. Heavy security was deployed outside the hotel in Powai after the MLAs wrote to Police stating that they feel threatened. The MLAs had written to Police stating, "We've heard CM&DK Shivakumar are going to storm the hotel,we feel threatened". DK Shivakumar, who reached the Hotel on Wednesday morning said he has booked a room in the hotel and there is no question of threatening. "I've booked a room here. My friends are staying here.There has been a small problem, we've to hold negotiations.We can't go for a divorce immediately. There is no question of threatening, we love&respect each other", he said.

Reports inform that the rebel Karnataka lawmakers had approached Mumbai Police, saying they feel 'threatened' that leaders from their state would 'storm' the hotel where they are staying. Since Monday, rebel Congress-Janata Dal (S) legislators from Karnataka have spread out in different parts of Maharashtra to hoodwink their parties. According to reports, a batch of 12 legislators had reached the city by a chartered flight on Saturday from Bengaluru, followed by one MLA each on Sunday and Monday, including an independent, and were staying at the Sofitel Hotel in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Congress-JDS Coalition Fears Losing Majority, Here's The Number Game.

According to a report by IANS, all the 14 MLAs quietly were said to be headed for Goa by road, but midway a few more rebel legislators joined them in Maharashtra's Satara. The report further informed that around a dozen returned to Mumbai and are now staying in the Renaissance Hotel in suburban Powai, while the remaining ones are still in Satara, but may shift to Goa anytime.

The 13-month-old HD Kumaraswamy government in Karnataka, which remained on the edge, could be asked to prove its majority in the Assembly on July 17 by Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar who refused to accept resignations of all the 13 Congress and JD-S legislators on Tuesday.
