The counting of votes was underway for the Karnataka Urban Local Body Elections 2019. The results of the Karnataka local polls will be out by Friday evening.
Bengaluru, June 1: The counting of votes for the Karnataka Urban Local Body Elections 2019 took place on Friday. Out of 1,361 seats, the result for 1,221 seats was announced. The Congress - JDS combine bagged the majority of seats defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress won with a thumping majority and gained a stronghold in 509 wards, the JDS won 174 while the BJP settled for 366. While the Congress was leading in all City Municipalities and Town Municipalities, the BJP was ahead in Town Panchayats. Elections were held in 1,361 wards of eight city corporations (CMC), 33 Town Municipal Corporations (TMC) and 22 Taluk Panchayats (TP). The Karnataka state election commission had also conducted by-elections necessitated by vacancies in 10 seats of eight Taluk Panchayats and 202 Gram Panchayats simultaneously. The Congress and the JDS had fought the elections separately and not as an alliance.
The Congress-JDS combine was decimated by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state in Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The BJP won 25 out of the 28 seats in the state.
