Karnataka Govt Crisis: 'Yeddyurappa to be Next CM if BJP Comes to Power', Says Sadananda Gowda as Congress-JD(S) Struggle to Pacify Rebels
In a major blow to the wobbly Congress-JD(S) government, 11 legislators of the ruling alliance submitted their resignation at the Speaker's office Saturday. Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar was not in his office when the legislators went there to submit their resignation.
Bengaluru, July 6: With the Congress-JD(S) coalition government being pushed to the brink, a hawkish BJP has indicated that BS Yeddyurappa would be the next Karnataka Chief Minister if the party ends up assuming power. The claim by Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda comes on a day when nearly a dozen legislators from the ruling camp resigned.
"BS Yeddyurappa will be the Chief Minister if a new Government is formed (in Karnataka)," Gowda said. He, however, claimed that the BJP has no role in influencing the legislators from the Congress or the JD(S) to quit. On being asked whether the party would attempt to topple the Kumaraswamy-led regime, Gowda said the BJP flock is together, and will exhibit their numbers if the Governor calls for a floor test.
"Governor is the supreme authority, as per the constitutional mandate if he calls us, certainly we are ready to form the government. We are the single largest party, we have got 105 people with us," he said.

On their decision to quit, Gowda said the MLAs of the coalition government have realised that the Kumaraswamy-led regime will not be able to live up to the people's expectations.
"They thought it's high time to come out of that party and resigned from legislators post as they felt that continuing as MLAs was not good in the larger interest of their constituency and state," he claimed.
