Karnataka Elections: Upset Over Ticket Distribution, Congress Workers Vandalise Party Office in Mandya, Chikmagalur
The protests erupted a day after the Congress released its first list of candidates from 218 of the 224 constituencies.
Bengaluru, April 16: Disgruntled workers of the Congress took to the streets in several parts of the state on Monday marking their protest against the distribution of tickets by the party. The dissidents claimed the party ignored its cadres who have been working in their respective constituencies for the past five years.
The upset workers in Mandya and Chikmagalur regions vandalised the party office to mark their dissent. The rebel cadres have demanded the Congress' top brass to intervene and reallocate the tickets.
The protest comes a day after the Congress released its first list of candidates from 28 of the 224 constituencies. The party is expected to name the candidates from the remaining six seats by the end of the week.

The assembly polls in Karnataka are scheduled to be held on May 12, with the results being declared on May 15. In the previous state elections, the Congress had defeated the then incumbent BJP, winning 122 of the 224 seats. The BJP was then reduced to 40, whereas, the Janata Dal (Secular) had also bagged 40 constituencies.
The first major opinion poll released last week predicted a hung assembly, with the Congress emerging as the single-largest party. The India Today-Karvy survey claimed the Congress could win between 90-101 seats, followed by the BJP - 86-91 and the JD(S) - 35-42. Siddaramaiah emerged as most preferred choice of CM in the pre-poll survey.
