Bengaluru, May 7: Days before moving into the polls, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken the legal route to respond to the scathing attack launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Siddaramaiah sent a legal notice to the PM Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party and their CM candidate BS Yeddyurappa for making "defamatory remarks".

Siddaramaiah has sought Rs 100 crore as compensation for the damage caused to his reputation. Among the defamatory remarks cited by him, include the "10 per cent CM" jibe by Modi, along with the charge levelled against the incumbent government of promoting "ease of doing murder".

By "10 per cent CM", Modi during his public addresses accused the Siddaramaiah government of charging 10 per cent commission for all contracts awarded by the state government. He further alleged that a "corruption tank" is connected to New Delhi which "fills the coffers of the Congress".

Modi further charged the incumbent state government of promoting a culture of "ease of doing murder", by giving a free-hand to forces which have "killed BJP workers" in Dakshina Kannada region.

A close aide of Siddaramaiah, who dispatched the legal notice to Modi, Yeddyurappa and the BJP, said the Chief Minister has demanded either a public apology, or Rs 100 crore as compensation for the damages caused.

"… you are called upon to cease and desist from making such statements forthwith and give an unconditional public apology immediately through electronic, print and social media etc in which the statements and advertisements have appeared," he was reported as saying in the legal notice.
