Bengaluru, Mar 29: Polling dates for the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 signal a bad omen as the voting falls on a Saturday - an inauspicious day for those believing in astrology - and results to be declared on Amavasya  or No Moon day, which is considered to be an ill-fated day.

As per the schedule released by the Election Commission on Tuesday, voting will be held across the 224 constituencies of Karnataka on May 12, while the results would be declared on May 16.

Top astrologers in the state, as per reports, claim several politicians have dialled them seeking their advice to tackle the ill-fate linked with the polling dates.

Among those who have reached out to astrologers include former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda. His close aides claim Gowda is taking all steps towards warding off the "evil forces".

Gowda's son HD Revanna, on being asked about the bad omen, claimed his family is a firm believer in God. "We believe in God and we believe in the people. With both on our side, no one is undefeatable," he said while speaking to News 18.

BJP's chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa had reportedly reached out to the Naga Sadhus, seeking their blessings to ward off the negative forces. According to local beliefs, the person blessed by the Naga Sadhus is likely to emerge as the political strongman.

According to Vedic scholar Daivajna KN Somayaji, Saturday is not necessarily inauspicious, but Amavasya is a "bad day".

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who boasts about being a progressive socialist, is not a follower of astrology. His wife Parvathi Siddaramaiah is, however, a devoutly religious person. Reports claim she has begun prayers for her husband and son Yathindra's victory. The father-son duo are contesting from Varuna and Chamundeshwari constituencies respectively.
