Mumbai, May 9: The battleground in Karnataka state may come to a complete standstill after the model code of conduct will be enforced from Thursday onwards and will be in force till May 13, the date of polling. Since it is the last day of the election campaigns and rallies, keen political parties' star campaigners rigorously held rallies in various parts of assembly constituencies to woo the voters today.

As a protocol, once the model code of conduct is enforced, no political party or the ruling party or any political leader can make announcements to distract voters. Also, ministers or elected representatives are not allowed to conduct any meetings or hold rallies. While taking the opportunity of the election campaign day today, PM Narendra Modi launched a complete all-out attack against its rival party, asking Kannadigas to bid farewell to Congress in Karnataka. Taking the spat further, PM Modi slammed Rahul Gandhi for his claim that he would become the next PM if Congress gets a majority in 2019. Modi said that Rahul is only eyeing the chair of prime minister. "How can someone just declare himself as the PM? It's nothing but sheer arrogance," Modi remarked.

Meanwhile, today a major controversy broke after fake voter ID cards were found at an apartment in Bengaluru’s Raja Rajeshwari Nagar constituency, raising questions on both Congress and BJP who accused each other of playing dirty politics. BJP demanded cancelling the elections immediately and initiating action against the guilty. It also demanded a special probe into the incident. Taking the fake voter ID row further, Congress party along with its delegates met the poll body officers and submitted a memorandum of malpractices undertaken by the government with the help of central agencies, including IT department.
