Davanagere, May 15: In Davanagere district, the BJP emerged victorious on seven seats - Channagir, Davanagere North, Davanagere South, Harapanahalli, Honnali, Jagalur and Mayakonda , whereas, the Congress emerged victorious from Harihar. Out of these seats contested in 2013, Indian National Congress won on seven seats out of six, whereas JD (S) candidate remain victorious on one seat. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed even to open an account. The BJP is trying hard to make inroads in the southern India by winning these assembly elections. The assembly elections were conducted on May 12.

Davanagere has a sex ratio of 967 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 76.3%.
