The Congress-JD(S) coalition on Tuesday worsted BJP 4-1 in the bye-elections in Karnataka winning two Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies, while conceding the Shivamogga or Shimoga parliamentary seat to the saffron party.

The Congress-JD(S) combine has won two of the three Lok Sabha seats that went to bypolls in Karnataka. The JD(S) retained Mandya parliamentary seat, while its ally Congress snatched Bellary or Ballari seat from the BJP, which managed to retain Shivamogga.BJP candidate BY Raghavendra, son of BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa, won Shivmogga Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 52,148 votes. Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy's wife and JD(S) candidate Anitha Kumaraswamy has won bypoll in Ramanagara assembly seat by a margin of 39,480 votes.
Congress candidate Anand Siddu Nyamagouda has won Jamkhandi assembly bypoll by a margin of 39480 votes. The seat was previously held by his father Siddu Nyamagouda.

Bengaluru, November 6: The results of bye-elections to two assembly and three Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka will be declared today. By-elections were held in Jamakhandi and Ramanagara assembly seats, and Bellari, Mandya and Shivamogga or Shimoga parliamentary seats on November 3. In Karnataka bypolls, the contest is mainly between the Congress-JD(S) combine and the BJP. JD-S is contesting from Mandya, Shimoga and Ramanagara and the Congress from Bellary and Jamkhandi. Though the BJP fielded candidates for all five seats, its nominee for Ramanagara seat, L Chandrashekar, on Thursday withdrew his nomination and re-joined the Congress. In Jamakhandi, by-poll was necessitated following the sudden death of senior Congress leader Siddu Nyamagouda in a road accident on May 28. The Congress fielded his son Anand Siddu, who faced a challenge from BJP's Srikant Kulkarni. Ramanagara seat fell vacant after Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy gave up the seat preferring Chennapatna, the other seat he had won in the May 12 assembly polls.

Since Chandrashekar has withdrawn his nomination, Kumaraswamy's wife and JD(S) candidate Anita Kumaraswamy is expected to get an easy win in Ramanagara by-election.
Bypoll was held in Bellary after the seat fell vacant following resignation by BJP's B Sriramaulu on being elected to the state assembly. To retain the seat, the BJP fielded J Shantha, sister of Sriramulu, against Congress Legislative Council member VS Ugrappa. Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa resigned on being elected to the state assembly. In Shimoga bye-election, Yeddyurappa’s son BY Raghavendra is testing his fortunes against another former chief minister S Bangarappa’s son and JD(S) candidate Madhu Bangarappa of the JD(S).
By-election in Mandya parliamentary seat was necessitated after C Puttaraju of the JD(S) resigned on being elected to the state assembly. To retain the seat, JD(S) pitted Shivarame Gowda against Dr Siddaramaiah, a retired commercial tax officer from the BJP.
