Bengaluru, November 6: The Congress and the JD(S) alliance won the Jamkhandi and Ramanagaram assembly seats in the 2018 Karnataka By-Elections. Voting for the seats took place on November 3 and the counting of votes was done today, Tuesday, November 6. Anitha Kumaraswamy, wife of Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, won comfortably from the Ramanagaram assembly seat. JDS' Anitha Kumaraswamy won the Ramanagaram assembly seat with a margin of 1,09,137 votes. Anitha fetched a total of 1,25,043 votes against 15,906 votes received by the BJP candidate.
Coming to the Jamkhandi assembly seat, Congress candidate AS Nyamagouda won the Jamkhandi assembly seat by a margin of 39,480 votes. The Congress candidate secured 96,968 votes compared to BJP's candidate Srikanth Kulkarni, who managed to get 57,492 votes against his name.
Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, talking the media, congratulated Congress leaders in the state and at the Centre for the victory. The Chief Minister added that JDS state leaders and workers worked towards this win. "BJP calls JDS-Congress coalition 'Apavitra Maitri', today that contention has been nullified," said the Karnataka CM.
Expressing his confidence for the future, the Karnataka CM said that "This elections was the first step. There are 28 LS seats, we'll work with Congress to win all of them, that is our goal.This is not an empty boast just because we have won today. This is the confidence of people in us. This win is not making us arrogant," before leaving on a triumphant note.
