Mumbai, October 11: Balasaheb Urf Shamrao Pandurang Patil of NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) has won the Karad North Assembly constituency in Maharashtra by defeating the Shiv Sena candidate Dhairyashil Dnyandeo Kadam.

As per the election commission website, the schedule of polls in Maharashtra points that nomination papers for the candidature were filed till October 4. Following this, the nomination papers were scrutinised on October 5, and the aspiring candidate withdrew candidature till October 7. The polling took place on October 21 and Election Commission announced results on October 24. The Karad North Assembly seat in Maharashtra went to polls on October 21. The counting of votes for the Karad North Assembly seat in Maharashtra took place on Thursday, October 24 and the results were announced on the same day itself.

From the BJP-Shiv Sena camp, the candidate contesting from Karad North seat was Shiv Sena's Dhairyashil Dnyandeo Kadam. The Opposition had issued the ticket to NCP's Balasaheb Urf Shamrao Panduranga Patil from the constituency. In the last assembly polls held in 2014, Patil Shamrao alias Balaso Pandurang of National Congress Party (NCP) party had won the elections.

Ahead of the elections, pollsters have given the edge to the BJP in both Maharashtra and Haryana. In the latter, the party is predicting to win as much as 78 out of the 90 constituencies, as per one of the surveys. In the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP and the Shiv Sena had contested without a pre-poll alliance. The two parties ended up winning 123 and 63 seats, respectively. The Congress was restricted to 42 and the NCP managed to win 41 constituencies. Following the polls, the BJP and Sena came together to form the government.
