New Delhi, October 29: A complaint has been registered against BJP leader Kapil Mishra for his tweet on Diwali stating, "Pollution kam Karna hai to yeh wale patakhe kam Karo, Diwali ke patakhe nahi," Mishra, who joined BJP party recently was criticised for his controversial tweet, which the RJD alleged was stoking communal hatred.

Mishra however, maintained that he was just trying to raise awareness on the need for population control. Following the backlash, the tweet was taken down by Twitter for violating its guidelines. His controversial tweet said, "If you want pollution to come down, then you should reduce these firecrackers and not the ones burst on Diwali.". He tweeted the above post tagging a picture of an elderly man with a skull cap and several children along with women in a burqa, waiting in a queue.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) accused him of comparing "Muslim children to pollution" for his "petty politics" and stoking acrimony in society. Mishra in its response said that he posted pictures of children but "they are seeing them as Muslims". "There is no mention of Hindu or Muslim in my tweet. If the picture would have been of a Hindu family, would they have reacted in the same manner," he tweeted.
