Results for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha Constituency in Tamil Nadu has been declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI). H Vasanthakumar of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has won the seat. The counting of votes for the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha Constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. The Kanyakumari Lok Sabha Constituency in one of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu which will go to poll on April 18. The constituency was formed after the delimitation of 2008 and has seven segments.
The Kanyakumari Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 39) has a total of 1,178,047 voters. As per EC data, out of the total voters, 579,212 are females and 598,835 are males. The city of Kanyakumari is the southernmost part of the country’s mainland covering a total area of 26 sq kms. For the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, BJP has fielded Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, who is also the sitting Member of Parliament from Kanyakumari, is seeking re-election. This is the strongest constituency for the Congress party but in recent years, BJP has made in roads with it winning the Lok Sabha seat here in 2014 general elections. All the 39 constituency seats of Tamil Nadu will got to poll on April 18. Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will take place across the country between April 11 and May 23 in seven phases. The election results will be announced on May 23.
In the last assembly elections which were held in 2014, BJP candidate Radhakrishnan P had won the Kanyakumari seat with thumping majority by defeating Congress candidate Vasantha Kumar H. The BJP candidate had won the seat by 372,906 votes.
