Kanti Bhatt, Veteran Gujarati Journalist, Dies at 88; PM Narendra Modi Pays Tribute Calling Demise 'Great Loss to the Reader World'

New Delhi, August 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to renowned Gujarati journalist and columnist Kanti Bhatt, after the writer died on Sunday at the ripe age of 88. The Prime Minister in his tweet called Bhatt's demise "a great loss to the reader world." Bhatt, a veteran journalist, was born on July 15, 1931 in Sachra village in Bhavnagar State, Gujarat and breathed his last in Mumbai on Sunday, August 4.

"The death of columnist and journalist Shri Kanti Bhatt, whose column has made the rider informative, has caused a great loss to the reader world. The vast amount of writing that he has done has enriched the present journalism and reading of Gujarat," read the tweet by PM in Gujarati.

"Praying for the peace of the departed soul with a feeling of deep grief and comforting the bereaved family and their readers," PM Modi wrote in the second tweet.

Kanti Bhatt entered the world of journalism in 1966 in Mumbai, then Bombay. He served as sub-editor of Vyapar in 1967. He later worked with several Gujarati publications like Chitralekha, Mumbai Samachar, Janshakti, Sandesh, Yuva Darshan, Jansatta. His columns titled Aaspaas and Chetnani Kshane in Divya Bhaskar were widely read. He also wrote several short stories.
