Bhopal, February 20: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in weeks, Congress MLA from Chhindwara Deepak Saxena has resigned from his constituency to pave the way for Chief Minister Kamal Nath in the upcoming by-polls for the seat. Saxena had contested the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in November 2018 and secured the success.

The resignation of the Congress leader comes a month after it formed a government in Madhya Pradesh assembly with the help of 114 lawmakers and allies in the 230-member strong Assembly. Now looking back at the Assembly elections results, Saxena defeated Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh Kuber Singh of BJP by 14,547 votes. In the elections, Saxena secured 1,04,034 and Singh got 89,487 votes. In total, the Congress secured 114 seats, BJP got 109, and other managed seven seats in the state elections.
