Indore, June 29: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Saturday dared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to topple his government in the state. Speaking at an event, Kamal Nath said BJP leaders were just making tall claims about bringing down the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh. "If the BJP has guts, it should try and topple my government. Why is it resorting to mere tall talk?" Nath said.
Reacting to remarks of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya that they can topple the Congress government anytime, Nath said: "Are they (BJP leaders) showing mercy on my government or what?" "They (BJP leaders) say such things just to boost the morale of their party workers," he added. The Chief Minister said by electing the Congress government people have shown faith in the party. Asked about Congress losing 28 out of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections, Nath said the outcome was not a mandate on the state government. "I accept people rejected us in the Lok Sabha election. We weren't able to convey our message effectively to the people. The election became centred on the issue of nationalism. But let me remind the people that the BJP does not a single freedom fighter from their ranks," he was quoted as saying. Kamal Nath Says He’s Ready for Floor Test to Prove Majority.
The Congress party had wrested power from the BJP after Assembly polls held last year. In the 230-member House, the Congress party has 114 legislators. They have a wafer-thin majority in the House with support of Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party. The BJP had written to Governor Anandiben Patel demanding floor test. In response, Nath had said he was ready for it.
